GolubCortney Golub is a native New Yorker who moved to San Diego in 2006 to explore teaching through project-based learning at a local charter school, and she never left. For her 19th year teaching, she is honored to join the incredible SCPA family this 2020-2021 school year. Cortney believes deeply in its mission to foster scholars, citizens, professionals and artists of character. She aspires to help her students become civic-minded and globally conscious, ready and able to question the world as part of a mission to change it!

Cortney Golub graduated from Yale University in 2000 with a B.A. in History and Queens College in 2004, with a M.S. in Secondary Education and Youth Services. Her teaching career began in 2002 at Park Slope Collegiate High School in Brooklyn, New York, in the founding cohort of the Americorps New York City Teaching Fellowship. She has worked in many different educational environments including public, charter, and independent schools in her 19 year career. Cortney and her projects with students have been recognized by Harvard Professor Dr. Donna Hicks in her new book Leading with Dignity, as well as the New York Times, RFK Human Rights, the Brooklyn Historical Society, the San Diego History Museum, The Annenberg Foundation Civic Education Initiative, KUSI and other local San Diego publications and news outlets.

Cortney Golub is passionate about the arts and arts education. In response to the disappearance of performance arts education opportunities in many San Diego public schools, a decade ago, she founded and directed DANCE FIERCE, a nonprofit teen after-school dance program, in collaboration with San Diego Dance Theater. Currently, she volunteers as a Lead Administrator & Moderator of Learning in the Time of Corona- a wonderful global community of nearly 17,000 people in over ⅓ of the world’s countries, whose members engage and empower one another to help navigate learning during the Coronavirus pandemic.
