Jessica Curiel


Jessica CurielJessica Curiel began dancing at O’Ferrall SCPA at age 10 and followed SDSCPA to the Dusk Drive campus during its inaugural year. She continued her dance education in college, graduating with university and departmental honors from the University of California San Diego with majors in Dance and Ethnic Studies. Her collegiate awards include the Stuart Award for choreography and the Leandra Smith Award for excellence as a dancer, dance educator, and choreographer. Ms. Curiel’s technical training includes a year of study at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater School (focused on Graham and Horton techniques), over 25 years of study with Jean Isaacs (Graham/Limon based technique), and Martha Graham Teacher Training Intensive at the Martha Graham School in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

In 2009, Jessica graduated Magna Cum Laude from National University with a teaching credential and Master’s of Education in Cross Cultural Curriculum.

This is Ms. Curiel’s 14th year teaching for the San Diego Unified School District and 6th year teaching at SDSCPA. She is enthusiastic about continuing the curricular growth of the SDSCPA Dance Program and seeing our SDSCPA Dance Family as we return to campus! In addition to teaching at SDSCPA, Ms. Curiel is a committed dance community member. She has performed with local dance companies, including San Diego Dance Theater and Push Process Movement Theory. She actively works to build bridges between the SDSCPA Dance Department with both local and national professional dancers and companies. For her work in bridging SDSCPA with the San Diego Dance Community, Ms. Curiel was awarded the Visual and Performing Arts Spotlight Award for Community Engagement in 2018.

When Ms. Curiel is not dancing or teaching, she enjoys traveling, hiking, going to the beach, laughing with friends and family, and practicing yoga.
