Shira Cohen

Shira ReidA native San Diegan, Shira graduated from UCSD in 2005 with a BA in Biological Anthropology. In 2008 she earned a Masters in Science in Primate Conservation from Oxford Brookes in England, where her dissertation focus was on education. Realizing her passion for teaching, Shira completed her Teaching Credential in Math and Biology in 2010. In addition to her love for education, Shira loves to dance, and has been studying various forms since she was two. She is thrilled to be part of a family who embodies both of her passions, and is excited to bring her love of arts and conservation into her classroom.

Inher spare time, Shira dances, hikes, and spends time relaxing in nature. She is currently starting a non-profit primate sanctuary, called Monkey Madness Primate Sanctuary, which will be located in San Diego County.

Teaching philosophy: Shira believes that students of all ages are capable of being responsible, independent, respectful learners and strives to empower her students to become so. She also believes that conservation should be integrated into the classroom so the Earth's future leaders care about protecting nature and the planet's resources.
