Xchange Xperience

San Diego REP and SDSCPA

Xchange Xperience The Xchange Xperience is our groundbreaking, award winning community partnership with the San Diego Repertory Theatre Company. Together we have produced seven summer musicals that have been part of the San Diego Rep's season. The partnership allows students from the SDSCPA to take on small roles and chorus, as well as provide full orchestra and offstage crew for these summer hit musical theatre productions, while working alongside professional actors at the top of their game. Under the direction of founding artistic director Sam Woodhouse and renowned choreographer Javier Velasco hundreds of students have had the opportunity to earn professional credit by participating in these summer blockbusters. From casting to rehearsal to tech to showtime these students get real first hand practical experience in the craft as they prepare to be sophisticated, literate world thinkers who are audition ready for college and conservatory.

Performances to date include:

Hairspray
The Who's Tommy
Zoot Suit
In the Heights

Review: Rep Musical reaches the "Heights"

The San Diego Union Tribune

Union Tribune

San Diego Repertory Theatre has hit a pinnacle this summer with "In the Heights," a sizzling salsa musical that celebrates the company's long history of producing multicultural arts.

The dazzling production directed by the Rep's longtime artistic director Sam Woodhouse leaps (literally) off the stage with high-energy choreography, solid vocal performances, a horn-rich salsa band and a talented cast that represents San Diego's own rich multiethnic population. MORE

THEATER REVIEW: "In the Heights" at San Diego Rep

San Diego Gay and Lesbian News

If ever there was a perfect vehicle for a San Diego Repertory Theatre/School of Creative and Performing Arts collaboration, "In The Heights" is it.

The Rep's Sam Woodhouse directs the Tony-winning musical (which uses SCPA students in the ensemble and the band) through August 25 in the Lyceum Theatre. "In the Heights" also marks the beginning of San Diego Repertory Theatre's 38th season. MORE

In the Heights by the San Diego Repertory Theatre

The San Diego Reader

In The Heights PlayThe Rep has opened its 38th season with a spectacular production of the Tony Award-winning musical. The evening seems to grow with every song. In fact, after a while when one tough act to follow leaves the stage, another one, equally tough to follow, moves into the spotlight.

Case in point. Someone living on the block at 183rd St., in Manhattan's Washington Heights, just won the lottery. Usnavi's financially-threatened bodega had the winning number. But no one knows who, so the community sings "96,000": the victor's amount.
